Hi I am 42 years old and this is my story.
I had severe back pain since February this year, with frequent ankle sprains. I visited the local GP who referred me for physiotherapy for possible muscle sprain. This helped for a while and then the pain came back worse than before! The GP sent me for exray during the last week in May. I was referred to the neurosurgeon on 13 June who requested an MRI as I had numbness in my left leg spreading down from the hip. The MRI reveals an intramedular spinal tumor on level L1-2. I underwent surgery on the 17 June. The whole tumor was removed and there was no cancer. I was transferred to a rehab center as I was not able to walk. On 15 July I left the rehab center walking with crutches.
I starting working again on 3 Aug and currently is walking without crutches at home and work - using walls and other objects when loosing my balance. Only using it when going outside. I still have numbness and burning sensations in my left leg and foot with balance problems. I am still performing rehab exercises on a daily basis using 1kg ankle weights, also monitoring steps taken with a pedometer.
I am using Lyrica and celebrex with good results and was fit before the surgery as I was partaking in martial arts until a year ago and using a stepper on daily basis while walking 2-4km every weekend.
Can someone tell me how long it takes before the numbness and burning sensations stops and when returning to work did they have any problems with being tired, irritated ect due to taking Lyrica and Celebrex with a combination of other meds. (I must mention that I have a high pain tolerance level and stopped using any pain meds during rehab and since working needed it only twice).
