Hi all, I am new here and on May 20th underwent a laminectomy (they put the bones back on) to remove a meningioma at the T2 level. They removed and replaced the vertebrae at T1, T2, T3. I am now 3 1/2 weeks post op. I must say, I have never been through anything this physically challenging and I am supposed to return to my desk job in one week. I don't know how I will do that since I still need pain meds (Norco) and a muscle relaxant every 5 to 6 hours. So, my question is, how long can I really expect this pain to last? The tumor was benign and I'm told the surgery was successful (I have titanium brackets and screws in my spine) but I was not prepared to still need narcotics this long. Also, the last few days I have been dealing with pretty severe vertigo in the mornings and it has been terrifying! The surgeon says it is unrelated to the surgery but my pre-existing tinnitus got much worse immediately after the surgery and now in a quiet room I can even hear my heart beating in my head. Now this new and very scary vertigo. I am usually a very upbeat person but I am beginning to become depressed because even on pain meds when I am up and about I have pain and it wears me down. I'm beginning to worry maybe they screwed something up because the improvement seems to be going at a snail pace. I would appreciate any insight because honestly I'm not sure if I should be worried or if I'm just freaking myself out at this point. I am a 48 year old female and before this I was pretty active and in great health with no other health issues. Betty

They tell everyone 6 weeks except cases like mine. The reality is they don't really know. If your up and walking after 3 weeks, you should be VERY happy. What you think is vertigo may be from the Norco. If your taking 5mg of Norco 3x a day, you may be able to step down to tramadol. Just my IPO.
Good luck and good health

I am up and walking and my meningioma was discovered because I was having pain in my ribs after sleeping all night. But we caught it before I had any motor deficits or numbness of any kind. The doctors just made it sound like this surgery is no big deal so I was not expecting this much pain for this long. Thank you for your advice on the Norco. I will ask my doctor. Betty

hi boop48 - Which muscle relaxant do you use? is it for spasms or tightness?

Hi Din, It's called Methocarbamal and the bottle says, "Take 1 tablet 3x a day for muscle spasms." In an attempt to cut back on meds, and because I don't really think I'm having "spasms" just pain, I stopped taking it yesterday. I will see how it goes. Betty
