15 yrs ago I had a resection of a benign Astrocytoma and draining of a Syrinx. I still have pain from Peripheral Neuropathy from the waist down. It has gotten progressively worse and I now take Lyrica 75 mg 3x a day. A very high dose. It manages the pain fairly well but, I often have to wait 2-3 hrs before I can take my next dose. My question is do I need to get Cine MRIs periodically to be sure the tumor or Syrinx hasn't increased in size?
Thank you for your help

I had a resection of a benign Astrocytoma about 6.5 years ago. Since then I have been checking MRI irregularly depending on whether I got new symptoms. Over years, the MRI did show enlarged tumor and syrinx, but I always can tell it due to my symptoms. 15 years is a very long time, I think your condition is very stable. If I were you, I won’t do it unless there is some new symptoms coming up. But on the other hand, it would make it easier to estimate the speed of the growth of tumor/syrinx if you take MRIs regularly. This could be quite useful when you want to know how the situation becomes worsening.

You mean an MRI or Cine MRI [CSF-Flow Study]?

Only my syrinx showed up on the MRI. After researching I found a doctor in Miami who was one of the best. He said getting a stent to drain the syrinx should be my last option. He ordered a CINE MRI and that is where he found the tumor hidden behind the syrinx. I had 3 other CINEs for a few yrs after the surgery I trust the CINE! I wonder if my increased pain is an indication the tumor or syrinx is growing. What symptoms tell you it has enlarged?
