I recently had an MRI due to severe pain down both legs, pins and needles feelings in my feet and lower legs and overall sciatica type nerve pain. The MRI showed 2 bulged discs with nerve impingement. I did get a nerve block which has helped the pain about 85% but still have leg weakness and pins and needles feelings whenever I stand up. I also have some pain which is the worst in the morning. When they did the MRI, they also found what they think is a nerve sheath tumor in my S3 sacrum. My doctor did a bunch of blood tests, a chest xray and a brain MRI (due to some faintness and facial spasms) which all turned out good except my TSH was up which is probably the reason for the faintness and facial spasms as I had them in the past with hypothyroidism. I did have my thyroid removed about 4 years ago and had thyroid cancer. Anyway, my question is, "Do any of you have experience with a nerve sheath tumor? What was the treatment? It should be noted that my nerve sheath tumor is still small (5mm x 16mm) and I am 51.

Hi Jojeti,
That tumor is pretty low in the spine compared to most of us. Most of us have had the Lamina removed in order to get to the tumor. I have no idea what they do with a tumor in the Sacrum. I'd speak to a good neurosurgeon and see what your options are. BTW welcome to the 50 year old club where we start falling apart one piece at a time ;-)
Good health

Good health Thanks, but not a club I really want to join. My doctor just made a referral to a neurosurgeon and am waiting for his office to call me with an appointment time.

Update: Just saw neurosurgeon today and we will wait and see. In 3 months I will have another MRI and see the neurosurgeon again. Hopefully it won't grow, if so, then we will cross that bridge when we get to it.
