Hi kurtymac,
I have been good. I have been back full time at work and doing field work. I feel I have been very lucky. Still have no soft touch or hot/cold sensations from chest down and lots of pins and needles and every morning have to go through a spasm phase till my legs warm up (takes about an hour to settle it all down) but i have been on two major international trips - one to Brazil for work and one to Italy and Germany for holiday and the back stood up to the long flights (Australia is a long way from the rest of the world!). That is why I am so late in replying.
All that said, tomorrow is my 18th month scan results day and i am sweating on it. If it has come back things will not be pretty.
And you how have you been fairing?
Ian

Whooo Hooo. 18 months post surgery and spine all clear! And spine alignment is all good too!
Best of all, I have been moved from 3-4 month scans to SIX MONTH scans so no more scans till January 2016!!!

Congrats on the results!!! I know I am only 6 weeks post-op, but I understand the dark cloud that hangs over you pondering the possibilities of re-growth or reoccurrence. Enjoy the Alps.

Hi Ependymoma Land,
Today marks two years since my second operation. All good so far. Still lots of pins and needles and lots of muscle tightness. But no return of the bad tumour. Working full time. Planning a walk in the New Zealand Alps.
Cheers,
PG

So happy to read this, happy anniversary! I go in for my annual scan next week and have no reason to think it will be anything but clear/stable. And, it all seems a bit less important as I also have a beautiful 7 week old baby in my arms. Pregnancy and labor were smooth and easy (though he was two weeks late, I had to be induced, and did not have an epidural due to my surgical history). I am always glad to hear things are well with you on the other side of the world! K

Hi Karen,
Great to hear your happy news. Congratulations! Wonderful that your dream has come true.
All is good here. Getting ready for Christmas - cooking a pudding as I type - got another two hours of boiling.
Doing some training so as to do some bush walking in January - only planning on a three day walk over 53 km which is very small compared to what I have done in the past but this is the first one post op.
Hope your scan is good. It is always stressful no matter how good you feel.
Wishing you and your family a very merry Christmas!
Ian

Yesterday I had my second year MRI - seemed to go well but don't get the results till next Wednesday. Over Christmas I walked the Milford Track - 53 km over three days in Fjord Land NZ - this is where some of the Lord of the Rings was filmed. Wonderful country. Was worried my back would not hold up but in the end it was my left knee that gave me trouble. Met a spinal surgeon on the walk. He double took when I said I had had a Grade III Ependymoma removed. So folks it can be done. I was exhausted at the end of every day and was the last person of the day to catch the boat out but I did it. Does not seem to have affected my spine at all - neck is sorer than usual. Now if only I can ride a bike again!
