Hi Pringleman,
So glad to hear the surgery went well and you managed to escape before Christmas. How is the recovery going? Are you having physio?
I do hope 2014 brings you good health; you certainly deserve it after all these tumours have put you through!

Hi Leah, 2014 has not brought me health yet but it has certainly brought wealth to the medical community of Perth. I have had two more MRIs and several CT scans and a lumber puncture. Ependymomas are rare and patients with Grade III tumours rarer too. They are like patients with Ebola; not round long enough to study. I must be worth a scientific paper at least. So they wanted an MRI to see if the brain was clear. It was thankfully and I learnt that MRIs can make different sounds and rumbles. Different aliens in the back room. Then there was another MRI to check the rest of the spine which I am still waiting the results. On Wednesday I had a lumber puncture to check for malignant cells in the CSF which came back negative - first win for a while!! The lumber puncture itself was fine - heaps easier as it was quicker than the MRIs - but then you have to lie flat all day to stop a headache. Did that but the headache came yesterday anyway. Still one of the cures is good - drink coffee and eat chocolate! (and lie down). Best medical advise I have ever been given. Shame it did not include drinking red wine. It is now 6 weeks and 2 days since I had a drink but who is counting. Hope your new year is going well. Ian

Hi pringleman, you sound amazing. I've been away for a while getting on with my work, which is the best therapy for me. I also did a course in mindfulness and it gave me some real tools to get through those difficult days and moments. Not therapy, not meditation, not relaxation. If you can find a course near you for people who are in similar health situations, you might find it congenial. I have now, alas, had to give up alcohol entirely, and guess what, I feel loads better. Taking Kratom, a mystery legal herb leaf in tablet form, as well as cocodamol and tramadol sometimes. Just did my first long drive today since I had my op in 2012. So great to feel like an adult again, even if I needed a co-driver to bring me home. Progress! Take care. love, FW

Hi Leah and Funnywalk,
How are you guys? I have been missing you! I know it is I who have been absent but I have good lot of excuses: 1. I had radiation treatment 2. I felt fatigued 3. My partner's computer got a virus and a friend who was fixing it thought he should clean my computer up and he removed firefox which took all my passwords away 4. Then there was flood, an earthquake and a terrible storm...
But I am back on the line now and feeling good for a pringleman. Had a great walk yesterday and am doing some baking today.
I had my first post op solo drive the other day. Freedom!!! Was the first time I had gone anywhere that was not medical related. And what did I do with my new found freedom? I had a haircut. Had a very short one just before the op which was excellent value.
One of my friends posted me a book on mindfullness the last time round and I found it very good. Have not looked at it last time but feel I am on the path still.
Sorry to hear the delights of a good red are no longer yours FW. I must confess that during the dark days of the radiation treatment I returned to the evil drink (having a glass with my dinner) but now that it over I am back on the wagon.
love to you both.
Ian

Hi Pringleman and all, I've been quiet lately, life is busy and I am feeling better than I've felt for a long time. Got a car! an automatic, so no left foot involved. It is like driving a bumper car, you dont have to think at all! Tottering around in the spring sunshine, hoping you are all feeling springlike. Love to all, FW
