SWheatley, I went to three neurosurgeons before I found the right one. My primary care physicians even pushed me to go to a local neurosurgeon but I didn't feel good about him. One Neuro knew my tumor was way out of his league and gave me some referrals and eventually I went into the city to a doctor that came highly recommended. I knew right after meeting him that he was the one. I would definitely suggest that you keep searching for a new Neuro. While you are on a wait and see with him it certainly wouldn't hurt. Where do you live?

Hi there
I am in the uk. I have managed to get my general practitioner to refer me to a hospital in London who are a national specialist centre.
I will wait to hear from them and update my post

I have a L5/S1 Foraminal Schwannoma and have good days and bad days. Fortunately I'm not having trouble sleeping at night. NS is concerned for deficit from surgery so he is wanting to wait until it gets really bad. Here's my question. Anyone had any success with a nerve block? or is that an option?

Hi bobw
Haven't been on here for a whole as I haven't been too great. I had a nerve root block last May and it increased my pain tremendously for about 2 weeks and then did nothing. I am of the view that you should try if you can as everyone is different and if it helps with pain it will be worth it S x

Ns quite certain i will have deficit in lower body if operate. So we doing a wait n see. I had crainatomy/ stroke at 44 now I'm 47- the spine tumor removal for l3 was last year. Im not sure how to cope with all this.each time after surgery i was partially paralyzed. Had to relearn how to walk etc.

You all sound so brave. I just found out a month ago that I have a 4cm schwannoma on L5. Ns wants to wait and do another MRI in October. In the meantime I am having physical therapy for T8 as the MRI showed disc degeneration. My question is, the electric like pain is right above L5 and circles around to the right side. (the tumor is on the left side) Can the pain be from the tumor and cause pain further up the back, or does it only affect the nerves below it?
