Todd I was wondering why they placed the plating on your vertabrea? and how common is your particular issue with the head and neck?

I asked them to put the lamina back on. I was uncomfortable having 4 lamina off the back of my neck. I am experiencing something strange actually, I think the spinous process from C6 and C7 touch when I pull my head up, this is keeping me from being able to raise my head in any sustained manner. I may see an orthapedist about it.

Thanks Linda, I am trying! Hmal and John, since yours is also in a similar location to mine, do you have "head forward posture" since they are entering at the level where your muscles are to hold your head up? Hmal, overall it seems that you've had a pretty good recovery. Are those your only post operative symptoms? Muscle pain isn't fun, do you control it with medication? John, what were your pre & post symptoms? Anything specific you would all to that location? I worry that since it is the prime location of muscles and holding your head/ neck up, it would be very hard. I have some head forward issues. I have to constantly stop myself and look up and pull my shoulders back. Yes, my numbness and muscle pain/fatigue are my only lasting symptoms. I take a muscle relaxer at night and that is the only medication I take consistently. I just take ibuprofen now on the bad days.

believe it or not, stop using the collar. my docs wouldn't let me, when I got tired, I had to find a place to rest my head. it took over a year before I could get on with life to a larger degree and not worry about a place to rest my head. the collar keeps the muscles in your neck weak. it's not going to be easy. you should get with a therapist, they can help you.

Hi tgratehouse, Thank you for your reply. I talked to my doctor on this and he said I can wear the neck collar as long as I feel comfortable. Right now I wear it for half day. When I seat with my back resting to chair/wall, I don't need to wear it. But when I walk, I always wear it.

you should see a therapist and ask their opinion. they can get you on track to getting those muscles into shape. just a suggestion.

Hi, just wanted to let you know that mine was from C7-T4. It was a grade II benign ependymoma. PLEASE don't scare yourself about mortality and all that from the internet. I AM a survivor and I can get around fairly well, without anyone really knowing that there was anything wrong with me. I have permanent sensory issues, but I can move and walk fairly normal. My doctor was Dr. Mark Lee, who is now in Texas. Email me if you need anymore information, I would be happy to share.

Please Help, my father has tumor at c7 and they say the tumor is both outside and inside of the spine. Because of this n deterioration of the spine, surgery is out of the question they say, they tell us that surgery would be too painful and c6 to maybe 9would have to be fused together therefore they have given him a death sentence of saying he has at best 6months. Two days ago he was walking around now he has lost control of his legs what can we do? Please suggestions
